ANTWERPEN, BELGIUM

Antwerpen is a major destination of Belgium in the region of Flanders. It is the second largest city in Belgium, after Brussels, and it has the second largest port in Europe (after Rotterdam).

The NAME. It's name probably comes from "aan de werpe", which is Dutch for "at the throw" referring to where the river throws its sand. The name also has a funny anecdote saying it comes from "Hand werpen", which translated is "throwing (a) hand(s)". In the official flag, the castle "het Steen" and the hand of Antwerp are shown.

CATHEDRAL of our LADY (Onze Lieve Vrouwekathedraal). One of the most impressive and biggest Gothic cathedrals in Northern Europe, built 1351-1521, 400 ft tall. It also houses some of Rubens' most famous paintings.

Het STEEN ("The Stone", literally). This a rather small medieval castle on the banks of the river Schelde. It used to function as a city fortification, now it houses a naval museum. It is the starting point of the Wandelterrassen, a scenic boardwalk with a cafe/restaurant at either end.

ZOO. One of the oldest zoos in the world, with over 4000 animals and lots of 19th century design and architecture. Right by the Central Station. You will not find such a fine zoo very often, and it's location is a monument in its own right: it is a few years younger than the London Zoo (1850), but retains all of the original buildings, cages and gardens.

RED LIGHT DISTRICT.
It's pretty small and right in the centre of town. If you want to visit just to do some sightseeing : ) consider going during the day. Although it's not as bad as it sounds, the district might be a little less safe at night. Ive been there once - but unfortunetely have no pics. Resembles Amsterdam one - with women standing\sitting in the red-lighted windows.

BRILLIANTS. Antwerp claims to be the "world's leading diamond city". It has every right to claim this, as more than 70% of all diamonds are traded in Antwerp. More than 85% of the world’s rough diamonds, 50% of cut diamonds and 40% of industrial diamonds are traded in the city.

SAVETY. Most parts of Antwerp are pretty safe. Some neighbourhoods are to be avoided in the evening. The warnings (purses, cells etc) that are used in every city have to be observed here too of course. Although you should be careful not to leave valuables on view in your car!!!  And be sure to lock your bike to a fixed object with a very good lock! Like in the rest of Europe, the number centralised for emergencies (ambulance, police and firemen) is 112.

TRANSPORTATION.
Since Flanders (and Belgium) is not big, it's very easy to take the train and go visit another city. The city has many special areas for cyclers and most 1-way roads can be accessed in both ways for cycles. It's much easier and more comfortable than a car. There are few free parking spaces but many spaces where you have to pay (on the street or in underground car parks). The prices are typically 2 euros per hour. There are many one-way roads, that can make it difficult to get to a specific place. Try to park your car as close as possible and go on foot!!!

FOOD. People often go eat a "smos", a bread with several layers of garniture in it. The name refers to the mess you make when trying to eat it. At most Flemish towns, you can find many fritkotten in the city. These are places where you can buy french fries and other fried food for a reasonable price. They usually have no place to sit so you must eat standing. But so what, they are only the best in Belgium!

Not to get lost: every room of the house is sighned... outside:)))

Grote Markt: almost 19th century but for the mobiles of the coachmen...

Een Klein Uitstapje: Brugge, Belgie

Brugge or Bruges
(pop.117,000  2005) is the capital of the province of Western Flanders and Belgium most touristical city, with 2 million annual visitors (on the account that there are only 10 mln people living in Belgium - that's quite a number!!!) .This perfectly preserved (or actually restored) medieval town of little canals has been called the Venice of the North.

During Medievel Times it was one of the most prosperous cities in Europe. By 1500, Bruges' population had boomed to 200,000, twice the size of London at the time!!! - and twice its size now. But soon after started the decline - and by the 19th  century it became the poorest city of Belgium.

Interesting History with the MORAL (from me :) : In 1302, Philip IV imposed a new tax on Flanders, and even took the two sons of the Count of Flanders, Guy of Dampierre, in hostage. This caused great unrest in Flanders and in the morning of 18 May 1302, the citizens of Bruges murdered all the Frenchmen in their city, identifying them by their pronuciation of the Flemish phrase schild en vriend ("shield and friend"). Everyone who had a problem pronouncing that, was killed. The massacre is known as "Brugse Metten" ("Bruges' Morning"). Moral: it's quite a good idea to know the language of the country where You live. :)))

One of the 54 bridges of the inner city:

About the houses by the canals - I envy people who live there... Imagine opening your back door right into the city waters, feeding the ducks from the terras...

Some chocolate:

The Gothic Stadhuis (town hall), built between 1376 and 1420, is arguably the most beautiful town hall in Belgium. There are 48 niches and replicas of the statues of counts and countesses of Flanders. The original were destroyed during the French Revolution.

The Ideal Penis Size

"Obviously, penises come in all kind of combinations of length versus girth. This leads us to the final and most important point: where do you fit on the scale of women's preference? What does she think about your penis?

Penis Size Preference Chart

The Penis Size preference Chart is a graph showing virtually all the possible combinations of penis length and penis girth in ¼ inch intervals. For each combination it lists the matching grade of women's preference (A to E), stating its ability to satisfy the average woman.

To use the chart just locate your penis length and circumference (girth) along the axis. Where both meet you will find your penis grade.
Note: Let it be clear that the majority of men will fall in the lower-left D and C brackets. Grade-A penises are probably occurring in less than 10% of men.

Never lose out of sight that having an ideal penis alone is not what most women will look for. The vast majority will prefer a nice decent looking man with a grade B or C penis (and some cash!) above a bum with a grade A penis.

But let's say someone has a borderline C graded penis as in the example above. Chances are the average girl is ok with this. She might even tell him that his penis is perfect. After all, there are many men with smaller penises than that, in length as well as in girth. But if she could choose between him and an exact clone of his (same character etc.) except with a grade B penis as in the above example, who do you really think she will choose? Deep in her heart, no normal girl will choose for the smaller guy."

Amsterdam Gay Pride Parade 2007

Photos from Amsterdam Gay Pride Parade 2007

 - The whole thing was happening from August 3 to 5th. I think it's the first weekend of August every year.

 - Gay Pride Parade was found in 1995. And it's the main gay event in Netherlands. I think that no other gay parade can be compared with the Amsterdam one. It has  the very peculiar spirit, and more to that it takes place on the numerous canals of the city.

 - The population increases this weekend. Male population... Mainly gay one. :)... From all over the world. There are much less lesbians or they are just less striking.  Especially it is weird to watch so many cute guys and be aware that all of them are gays. Straight men if go this day to watch the parade bring along  their female friends or girlfriends who can protect them.. in case... :))))

 - The funny thing about this day was that the weather which was particulary dreadful almost the whole summer before and after happened to be so shiny, warm and wonderful. Previous Friday was rainy and cold and Monday right after it was rainy and cold again. So I think that someone responsible for the weather favours gay-people...

- The event starts in the morning with few decorated boats\barges\yachts leading to the center. By the midday it gets more and more of those with people dressed extravagantly  and  different soundtracks. People drink, dance and drum up cute!!! onlookers on board. In the evening all this company ends up in the clubs of the city. And at night... I suspect  there is more gay sex happening in the city that weekend than during the whole year...
